There were 262,896 retail trade businesses in the U.S. that had between 5 and 9 employees in 2016, according to County Business Patterns (CBP) statistics provided by the United States Census Bureau.

CBP data indicates that no other industry had more establishments with between 5 and 9 employees in the U.S. than “retail trade” businesses.
