Gay Barzee to retire after 23 years at Boise State
Gay Barzee, a budget analyst for the Office of Budget and Planning, will be retiring on June 26 after nearly 23 years of service to the university. A retirement celebration will be announced later in the year.
Barzee has been an employee at Boise State since September 1997 and has worked in various roles in departments across campus including Student Housing, the College of Applied Technology, and in Budget and Planning.
“One of the joys of my career has been the supervision of student employees,” Barzee said. “It gave me a sense of purpose to help our students grow and flourish… My goal as a supervisor was to make sure our students not only received an education but to prepare them for their future careers. Those are the memories I am most proud of.”
Barzee engaged in many activities during her time at Boise State, including serving on the Association of Classified Employees, first as senator in 2005-06, then president in 2006-07 and past-president in 2007-08. Barzee also served on the board for the university’s Association of Office Professionals beginning in 1998 and then as president-elect in 2001-02, president in 2002-03 and past-president in 2003-04. In 2002, Barzee served on the publications committee for the National Association of Educational Office Professionals. In May 2014, she earned her Professional Standards Program Certificate, Advanced III, Option 1 with Certified Educational Office Employee (CEOE) Distinction from the National Association of Educational Office Professionals in May 2014.
“I have many friends and associates that I have interacted with during my twenty-plus years at Boise State and will miss them and the camaraderie we have shared,” she said. “It has truly been my pleasure working at Boise State.”
Barzee is eager to catch up on the traveling and writing she loves so much in retirement. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues, who have all benefited from her wisdom, charm and great work ethic.
